Preservation of the remains of the Historic Provo Tabernacle and repurpose as a
new LDS temple
· Brief History of Provo Tabernacle

· Documentation and preservation
· Task of fitting temple program into historic structure
· Shoring and excavation
· Constructing both tension and compression piles for differing load conditions
· Working with unrestrained brick walls that had been through over 100 years
of wear and tear, as well as a devastating fire
· Overcoming impossible obstacles; rerouting city utilities, demonstrating
benefit of placing building on piles, controlling ground water, managing soil
retention, coordinating with adjacent large project, evaluating how to place
everything within the confines of an imperfect existing shell
· New Structure
· Interior Design
· Completed Temple

· Learn about common specified requirements for as-cast, architectural,
smooth-rubbed and grout-cleaned rubbed finishes. Learn about as-cast
surface defects and anomalies including honeycomb, air voids or bug holes,
sand streaking, offsets, and more. Dr. Basham will also discuss how to avoid
and minimize surface defects and anomalies, repairs and ACI 347.3R-13
Guide to Formed Concrete Surfaces.

Presentation Title: Overcoming Challenges in Concrete Construction - The Snowbird Project
· Two summers, temperature swings from the 20?s to the 70?s, high winds,
lightning, over 1,800 yards of concrete hefted to 11,000 feet. See how the
multi award-winning Summit at Snowbird came to be. Learn about the ins
and outs of completing the 23,000-SF structure on the top of a mountain. |
