| Course Name: | Multiple Roles of HERS, the Home Energy Rating System |
| Course Outline & Objectives: | The HERS index has been around for more than two decades and more than One Million new homes have been rated under this Nationally Standardized program. In spite of this prevalence in the Home Building Industry, it is still widely misunderstood and often not recognized for what it means. With the adoption of the 2015 IECC, the International Code Council has included the HERS rating system as one of three methods for showing compliance of the Energy Code.
This session will focus on the the methodology of the HERS rating and how it can now be used to comply with Utah's amended version of the 2015 IECC as well as the difference between the HERS and the EER (Energy Efficiency Rating). We will discuss how various components of a home affect the end score when rating a new home and how this method can assist builders comply with this code while maintaining their budget.
In addition to the code compliance path, we will touch on the history of the HERS rating and the National Certification process of both the Energy Raters and the Homes they rate. We will touch on the growing trend by Realtors and the Appraisers to use this rating to show increased value and improved marketability of HERS rated homes and how Builders can leverage this to improve home sales and profitability.
This seminar is recommended to General Contractors, Superintendents, Realtors, Appraisers and trades that effect the performance of homes which includes, Framers, Insulators, Sheet rockers, HVAC installers, Window and Door suppliers and even plumbers and electricians. We often say, "a home is a system" and everyone involved in it's construction can affect it's ultimate performance.
Kim Ewers is the Presenter of this session. His company has been providing HERS rating services in the Southern Utah area since 2002. Kim and his business partner, Brian Archibald have a combined experience of testing and inspecting more than six thousand homes. |
