| Course Outline & Objectives: | This course introduces electricians to the basic principles of solar photovoltaic (PV) system design as well as solar module placement, permitting, codes and standards, connection inspection, and economic considerations.
This course focuses on four areas:
1. Introduction to Solar Photovoltaic: This section covers the history of Solar PV; development, market growth, industry, applications and various solar technologies will be reviewed.
2. Solar PV Module Placement: This section will demonstrate the preferred placement of solar PV panels to maximize energy production. Key considerations such as warranties and added costs for common mounting methods and different roof types will be discussed in detail.
3. Systems Types, Codes & Utility Interconnection: This section will cover the different types of solar arrays and the codes and standards for electrical connection of solar PV panels and the solar array.
4. Permitting, Inspection, and Economics: This section will introduce the required permits, the inspection process, and calculations that demonstrate financial benefits and installation decisions. |
