Course Outline & Objectives:Day 1 - 2020 NEC Update. Day 2 - 2021 NFPA 70 E. The course includes a review and discussion of the major and minor code changes. We will discuss how a bode is changed, and how the electrician can help in effecting changes in the code book. Examples of how these changes will help in installation implementation will be reviewed. We will pay particular attention to many areas of the code that have re-occurring misunderstandings like termination limitations, wire sizing and motor ground fault, and short circuit calculations. The Mike Holt Changes to the 2020 Code and the NEC 2020 analysis of changes are the textbook references. Review of changes that came in the 2020 NEC. We will discuss electrical safety, including arc-flash hazards in a positive proactive format. We will introduce or refresh safe work practices to mitigate the hazards identified in everyday electrical overcurrent device equipment, create awareness of the potential hazards and describe workable solutions by which these hazards can be controlled, minimized, or eliminated saving the employee from injury and the employer from liability. Reference material used in this class will be NFPA 70e, Electrical Safety-Related Work Practices by apprenticeship training. The 1-hour portion of the class involving Utah Energy Conservation will be a discussion on the newest ASRAE 90.1 energy code as well as the 2021 IECC as it relates to electrical lighting and heating in both residential and commercial buildings.
