Course Outline & Objectives: | Course Description: Precast, prestressed concrete has long been used on parking structures and is very well suited to this building type. The strength, flexibility, durability, speed and efficiency of the material are some of the reasons that a significant percentage of the parking structures in the U.S. use precast. This presentation will examine considerations and benefits of precast for parking.
Learning Objectives:
1. Define the attributes of a high-performance parking structure.
2. Discuss important considerations for material and design choices related to parking structures.
3. Learn ways that precast, prestressed concrete can contribute to durable, efficient, resilient parking structures.
4. Understand the importance of proper maintenance practices to maximize the life and utility of parking structures.

Instructor Resume: | Jim Schneider, LEED AP, is Executive Director of PCI Mountain States, a chapter of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute that includes Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. With a background in communications and marketing, Schneider has worked in the design and construction industry for 15 years. He has a BA in English from the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay. Schneider was one of the co-founders of the PCI Sustainability Committee, and currently serves on numerous PCI committees, including the Marketing Council and the Architectural Handbook Task Group. |
