Course Outline & Objectives:Commercial & Residential Energy Storage Systems Energy storage systems (ESS) are increasingly being installed throughout the country, especially in Utah. Understanding the requirements governing ESS, and knowing how the systems are to be installed, is essential. This course will focus on commercial and residential energy storage systems and will outline the key requirements and concepts for ESS. Key topics to be covered include UL 9540 listing, large-scale fire testing (UL 9540A), maximum equipment and system sizes, allowable locations, separation between battery units, clearances around equipment, disconnects/shutdown devices, and overcurrent protection. Example system diagrams will also be explained to help attendees understand the layout and equipment used for a variety of commonly installed residential ESS. This course will be beneficial for inspectors, plan reviewers, fire officials, installers, and designers. The course will be based on the 2018 IFC, 2020 NEC, and Utah State Amendments of the 2015 IRC
