Course Name: | Soares Grounding & Bonding - 2020 NEC |
Course Outline & Objectives: | This course provides the attendees with a clear understanding of the terminology and the correct meaning of the terms used for grounding and bonding and covers the general concepts of grounding and bonding as it applies to electrical systems. This includes the grounding of systems and services, and main bonding jumpers. Further, the presenter will elaborate on regulations as they apply to grounding electrodes and grounding electrode conductors. Also highlighted are design and installation practices according to safety provisions in the National Electrical Code. |

Instructor Resume: | Chuck Mello holds a BS degree in Electrical Power Technology with a co-major in Naval
Science from Oregon State University. He spent 6 years active duty as a commissioned
officer in various ship engineering officer positions. He worked for Electro-Test, Inc (eti) for
the next 26 ½ years doing field engineering and conformity assessment work as well as
several management positions. As a field engineer Chuck conducted many projects of
acceptance testing / commissioning and maintenance testing of power distribution systems.
In 2004, Chuck began work for Underwriters Laboratories as the Global Field Evaluation
Program Manager where he oversaw the overall field evaluation business. Through his
whole career he has continued to participate in development of various standards including
as a member of NEC Code Panel 5. He was also a key author and contributor to NFPA 790
and NFPA 791 for competency and procedures for field evaluations.
Now retired from UL, Chuck provides consulting services for electrical training and specific
project work. He is providing these services from his own company, cdcmello Consulting
LLC.
Chuck has held NETA Senior Test Technician Certification and NICET Senior Engineering
Technician certifications. Chuck also holds an active Master Electrician license from the
State of Colorado and has held Master Electrician and Electrical Contractor licenses in
several other states. He is a member of IEEE, NFPA and IAEI, and served as the IAEI
International President for the IAEI in 2011. He is a nationally recognized speaker on the
NEC, grounding and bonding, high voltage power systems, electrical safety, and field
evaluations. |
