Course Overview
Section 600.4(B) Signs with Retrofitted Illumination System (5 min)
? Retrofitted signs need to be marked for the AHJ, the Authority Having Jurisdiction
? Marking shall include the kit provider and installer's name, logo, or unique identifier.
? The sign equipped with tubular light emitting diode lamps powered by the existing sockets shall include the label alerting the service personnel that the sign has been modified.
Photovoltaic (PV) Powered Signs & 600.34 Requirements (10 min)
? New definition has been added in 600.2 for a photovoltaic or PV-powered sign
o Section 600.34 PV Powered Sign Requirements
? The new 690.34 applies specifically to field installation requirements for PV-signs.
? The new 600.34 requires field wiring of components and sub-assemblies for an off-grid stand-alone, on-grid interactive, or non-grid interactive PV-installation, be installed in accordance with 690 but as applicable, 600.34 and the PV-powered sign installation instructions.
o 600.34(A) deals with equipment and tells us that inverters, motor generators, PV-modules, PV-panels, PCPV-modules, DC-combiners, DC to AC-converters, and charge controllers intended for use in PV-powered sign systems shall be listed for PV application.
Article 625 Electric Vehicle Charging Systems
Definitions (10 min)
? Six new definitions added to Article 625.
o charge-powered converter fastened in place
o fixed in place
o portable as applied to EVSE equipment
o wireless power transfer, or WPT, and wireless power transfer equipment, WPTE.
? due to the changing technologies, the definition was added to meet the anticipated upcoming charging systems.
Part III. Installation. Section 625.40 Electric Vehicle Branch Circuit
? Article 625 Part IV Electric Wireless Power Transfer (10 minutes)
o New part 4 of Article 625, wireless power transfer equipment (B) deals with installation.
o (C) is information about the primary pad and tells us that the primary pad shall be installed on the surface
o 625.102(D) is protection of the output cable, and the requirement is that the output cable to the primary pad shall be secured in place over its entire length
? Section 680.4 Approval of Equipment (5 minutes)
o Changes associated with Article 680, swimming pools.
o All equipment and products associated with the pool shall be listed
? Section 680.11 Underground Wiring for Pools (15 minutes)
o Change in section 680.11 for under the ground wiring for pools. 680.11
? Underground wiring shall be permitted where installed in rigid metal conduit, intermediate metal conduit, rigid, poly-vinyl chloride conduit, reinforced thermal setting resin conduit, or a type MC-cable suitable for the conditions subject to that location.
? Underground wiring shall not be permitted under the pool unless this wiring is necessary to supply pool equipment permitted by this article.
