| Course Outline & Objectives: | Objectives and Description:
Backflow Prevention (2 Hours) - This class provides an understanding of the importance of backflow prevention in piping installations, and the methods available to ensure proper protection against backflow. This course covers International Plumbing Code Section 608 on backflow prevention and Chapter 8 Indirect Waste, with explanations of the methods used to prevent backflow and descriptions of the assemblies, devices and methods used in installations.
Energy Code (1 Hour) - This class also covers energy code as it applies to the plumbing code, from sections of the International Energy Conservation Code. A basic understanding of the building thermal envelope requirements is provided. The discussion includes information on energy requirements for water heaters, pipe insulation and hot water recirculation.

- Explanation of potential backflow situations with emphasis on the importance of backflow prevention
- Discussion of IPC Section 608
- Analysis of IPC Table 608.1
- Descriptions and explanations for each assembly, device and method listed on IPC Table 608.1
- Discussion of IPC Chapter 8 Indirect Waste with emphasis on backflow prevention provided by proper installation of indirect waste piping
- IECC Chapter 4 Sections 402 and 404 Discussion of thermal envelope, water heater insulation and water pipe insulation. |
