Course Outline & Objectives:Ensuring that outdoor lighting is dark sky friendly promotes human health and safety, protects wildlife, saves energy and preserves the shared resource and heritage of our night sky. In this course you will learn how to reduce light pollution through the specification and installation of dark sky friendly fixtures. You will also learn how to identify and comply with dark sky codes and ordinances.

Instructor Resume: Joseph (Jody) is a professional lighting designer at Spectrum Engineers in Salt Lake City. Before joining Spectrum, he was the International Director of R&D at Strand Lighting. Jody is the recipient of nearly 50 international awards for his work in design and sustainability. He is Past President of the Illuminating Engineers Society (IES) and the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP). Recently Jody was named a ?Utah Green Pioneer? by Utah Business Magazine.

Instructor Resume: Joseph M. "Jody" Good is a retired Principal in Spectrum Engineers, Inc., Salt Lake City. His design work has received some 48 awards, including the 2003 GE Edison Award for Lighting Design and Sustainable Design and a 2008 GE Edison Award for Sustainable Design and a 2004 GUTH Award of Excellence from the IES. Jody is a Fellow of the IES, holds the LC designation is a professional member of IALD. Jody is Past President of the IES. Jody is also Past President of the NCQLP. He was named a "Utah Green Pioneer" by Utah Business Magazine in October 2009. Jody received his BFA in Theatre and Lighting Design from the University North Carolina School of The Arts. He has taught and lectured about Lighting Design and Theatre Design in many Universities, Corporations and Lighting Conferences.
