Course Outline & Objectives:Four-hour core continuing education course covering grounding and bonding under Article 250 of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Hour 1 covers grounding and bonding foundations and system grounding: NEC 250.1, 250.4(A), 250.6, 250.20, 250.24, and 250.30 - the difference between grounding and bonding, the effective ground-fault current path, which alternating-current systems must be grounded, the main bonding jumper at the service, and the system bonding jumper at a separately derived system. Hour 2 covers the grounding electrode system: NEC 250.50, 250.52(A), 250.53, and 250.66 with Table 250.66 - which grounding electrodes must be bonded together into one system, the supplemental-electrode rule for rod electrodes, sizing the grounding electrode conductor, and laying out a complete grounding electrode system for a service. Hour 3 covers bonding of enclosures, raceways, and metallic systems: NEC 250.86, 250.90, 250.92(B), 250.94, 250.96, 250.97, 250.100, and 250.104 - service bonding methods, the intersystem bonding termination, bonding for circuits over 250 volts, and bonding of piping systems and exposed structural metal. Hour 4 covers equipment grounding conductors: NEC 250.118, 250.119, and 250.122 with Table 250.122 - permitted equipment grounding conductor types, identification, and sizing, including the upsized-circuit and parallel-conductor rules. Course is taught at master-electrician level by Fredrick B. McHugh, Master Electrician with master licensure in 20+ states and NFPA membership. NEC citations reference the edition currently adopted by Utah under Utah Code Sec. 15A-2-103. End-of-course examination verifies that the participant has learned the material presented (per Utah Admin Code R156-55b-304 distance learning rule). Full topical outline and learning objectives by hour are attached as the Course Outline PDF.
