Course Outline & Objectives:This course provides contractors with practical business strategies to improve profitability by understanding the financial drivers of a successful construction company. Participants will learn how to interpret basic financial statements, including the balance sheet and income statement, identify the purpose of job costing, calculate overhead and break-even points, and understand the difference between markup and margin. The course emphasizes using financial information to make informed business decisions rather than simply satisfying accounting requirements. In addition to financial fundamentals, the course explores common pricing mistakes, the long-term consequences of competing primarily on price, and strategies for building a more profitable and sustainable business. Attendees will learn how to position their company based on value instead of cost, identify and avoid the pitfalls of underpricing, improve customer qualification and communication, and develop a premium customer experience that supports stronger margins. By the end of the course, participants will have practical tools and actionable strategies they can immediately apply to protect profits, strengthen their business, and compete more effectively in today's construction marketplace.
