| Course Outline & Objectives: | UDOT's project delivery process encompasses every phase of transportation projects, from planning and environmental review through design, construction, and final delivery. This presentation will provide an overview of how projects move from concept to completion, highlight current delivery methods and innovative practices being implemented by UDOT, discuss challenges and lessons learned, and explore future priorities aimed at improving efficiency, quality, and long-term transportation infrastructure across Utah.
Identify the key UDOT tools, websites, and resources available to support project delivery.
Understand current construction hot topics.
Describe the primary project delivery methods used by UDOT and understand when each method is most appropriate.
Anticipate upcoming Alternative Delivery opportunities and major transportation projects to better prepare for future procurements and partnerships. |

Carmen Swanwick is the Deputy Project Development Director and Chief Structural Engineer for the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT). Carmen has been with the Department for over eight years. Prior to working for the Department she worked for consultant transportation engineering firms for over 14 years. She received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Utah in Civil and Structural Engineering. Carmen is also the Chair for the AASHTO Committee on Bridges and Structures T-4 Construction Committee, serves on several TRB subcommittees, and participates in numerous NCHRP projects.
As a consultant Carmen participated in the Department?s first Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) project and was heavily involved in the Department?s initiative to include ABC in all projects. Carmen now manages the UDOT ABC Program.
