To get a release for your vehicle using the Utah Impounded Vehicle Service, follow these simple steps
1. Perform a vehicle lookup.
Enter your vehicle's VIN or license plate number, or the State Impound Form Number associated with the tow (if applicable), and click Continue. (If you don't know the VIN or plate number, contact the Motor Vehicle Division (801) 297-7780 or (800) DMV UTAH for additional assistance)
2. Obtain tow information and vehicle storage location.
If your vehicle is found in the system, you will be presented with information relating to its tow and storage location. Additional instructions on how to retrieve your vehicle will be given depending on the impound type.
Vehicle release instructions.
- Private impound:
- Go to the impound yard
- Present legal picture ID and proof of ownership
- Pay towing and storage fees
- State Impound:
- Step One: go to your local motor vehicle office
- Present legal picture ID and proof of ownership
- Pay all impound penalties and fees due for titling and registration functions
- Obtain "Letter of Impound Release" from DMV office
- Step Two: go to the impound yard
- Present the DMV "Letter of Impound Release"
- Present legal picture ID
- Pay towing and storage fees
- Step One: go to your local motor vehicle office
- State Removal:
- Go to the impound yard
- Present legal picture ID and proof of ownership
- Pay towing and storage fees
