Course Outline & Objectives:The Utah Builders conference offers a unique opportunity to meet the required 6 hours of continuing education with a variety of topics, not offered in any other setting. Enhance your business as you learn more about: Utah residential energy code updates. The St George area housing outlook and forecast. Construction contracts while considering the IRC code standards, industry standards, and the standards enforceable at court. Insurance standards and insurance coverage. Instructor Resume: Robert Jensen, JensenBayles Robert Jensen has been in St. George since 1970. His father, Paul B. Jensen, is a homebuilder and developer in St. George, and was the first pool builder in town, and was the second President of Southern Utah Home Builders Association. Robert's brother is also a local contractor. Although Robert disappointed the family and did not go into construction he has tried to repair family relations by becoming a construction law attorney. Robert works with general contractors, subcontractors and material suppliers, customizing contracts, negotiating settlements, and of course, working with the State Construction Registry and Mechanics Lien law.

Instructor Resume: Zach Renstrom is the deputy general manager for the Washington County Water Conservancy District. In this capacity, he oversees all operational and financial activities for the district and its employees. Prior to joining the district in 2019, Renstrom served as a Washington County Commissioner and worked as an attorney for Lincoln, Gustafson & Cercos. Renstrom was also a principal owner at a local engineering firm. He is a licensed professional and structural engineer in Utah with more than 20 years of experience; and a member of the Utah and Nevada state bars with more than 15 years of experience. His background gives him insight into the complexities of water treatment and engineering systems, as well as the legal realm of government, contracts, water law and legislation. He has served on the following boards: Washington County Flood Control Authority, American Public Works Association, Dixie Transportation Executive Council, Utah Office of Tourism Development and the Tuacahn Center for the Arts. Renstrom is a graduate of the University of Utah and Washburn Law School.

Reuben Clark Law School (B.Y.U.).  He began his legal career in 1996 with Fisher, Scribner & Stirland, a small litigation firm in Provo, where he began developing a civil litigation practice.  He now works for Dixon, Truman, Fisher & Clifford which has offices in St. George and Las Vegas.  His firm emphasizes construction law and real property litigation.  In addition to practicing law, Nathan is a Judge Pro Tem in the Fifth Judicial District Small Claims Court in St. George.  He is impressed by the responsibilities of that position and enjoys the opportunity to serve.  Nathan is currently serving on the Southern Utah Home Builders Association Education committee which is dedicated to improving our membership through continuing education.  He has conducted lien law seminars instructing our general membership in the intricacies of Utah and Nevada Mechanics Lien Laws.  Nathan has donated time to answering legal questions from SUHBA members and is always available to the membership to briefly address legal questions.

After practicing in San Diego, David decided it was time to come home to Southern Utah. His practice areas include commercial litigation and estate planning. His commercial litigation practice includes, construction defect defense, construction law, mechanic?s liens, contract litigation, collections law, civil litigation, general real estate, real estate development, real estate disputes, real estate transactions, real estate foreclosures, banking, arbitrations and mediations. Instructor Resume: Chris Hart is a native Utahn growing up in Logan and eventually attending high school and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. After marrying his wife Sandy in 1972 his family moved to Ammon, Idaho on the outskirts of Idaho Falls where they lived for the next twenty-five years. There he launched Signature Enterprises Inc., a successful land development and home building business that operated across much of Eastern Idaho. Chris was active in the Bonneville County Home Builders Association and served as its President for a year. He and Sandy most importantly raised their four sons Brandon, David, Shawn and Jordan there. Growing weary of the long winters Chris and his siblings created a land development company in the St. George area after acquiring prime development property in Ivins City near Tuacahn. Chris became active in city government and in the Southern Utah Home Builders Association eventually becoming President of the Utah State Home Builders Association. After serving on various development ordinance review committees Chris was eventually appointed to the Ivins City Planning Commission and from there to the Ivins City Council. He was elected Ivins City Mayor in 2009 and has served in that capacity since. Ivins City has undergone remarkable changes during his administration including the Southern Utah Veterans Home, Sentierre, a five-star world class resort being built next to Tuacahn, And Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine Southern Utah Campus all choosing to locate there. His service as Ivins City Mayor has been one of the highlights of his life experience. In addition to his lovely wife Sandy and their four sons, four beautiful daughters-in-law have been added to his family along with sixteen going on seventeen wonderful grandchildren.

Instructor Resume: Rick and his wife Terri moved to Santa Clara in 1989 and raised their four children in their Lava Flow Drive neighborhood. He graduated from Utah State University in 1984 with a BS degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and is the founder of Rosenberg Associates, a full-service civil engineering and land surveying firm headquartered in St. George. Rick has been actively involved in public service for over 25 years in Santa Clara, currently serving his fourteenth year as Mayor, following five years on the City Council and six years as a Planning Commissioner. He has been recognized for his service and achievements in civil engineering and public works project design throughout Washington County. Rick understands the value and costs associated with providing critical services and infrastructure for residents within the community. His leadership was critical during the community?s recovery following the federally declared Santa Clara River floods in 2005, 2010 and again in 2012 following the Laub Pond Detention Basin failure and flood. A native son of pioneer stock from Southern Utah, he is a strong supporter of the community?s heritage and the annual Swiss Days celebration. Rick and Terri remain heavily involved in community service and are especially proud to call Santa Clara home. He is also an avid fly fisherman and enjoys trips to Alaska, Lake Powell and other destinations with his family and friends whenever time permits.

Instructor Resume: Brad began his career in the home building industry working with his father while in high school. Brad expanded his experience as division president of a regional a home building company, CFO of a worker's compensation carrier and as president of a local custom building company. Brad earned his BA from the University of Utah, his MBA from Westminster College and is currently enrolled in a Doctoral of Business Administration program. Brad is past president of the Utah Valley Home Builder's Association and serves as a member of the National Association of Home Builders Board of Directors. Currently Brad serves NAHB as Area 13 National Area Chairman (NAC). Brad was the 2014 president of Utah County Habitat for Humanity and was awarded the Silver Beaver for his work with the Boy Scouts of America. Brad has been a licensed real estate broker for 39 years. Brad is married to Shawn, they have four kids and a grandson.
